The packing workflow is broken down into a multi-step stepper designed for mobile devices, but will work on desktops:
- Packing Queue/Dashboard: View picked, staged orders and open one to pack.
- Claim & start: Claim the task; for LTL, scan a forklift.
- Pack: Scan bins, verify items, then build boxes or pallets.
- Label Generation: Generate shipping labels and documentation via FedEx integration.
- Shipment Completion: Confirm shipment readiness and update order status.

Detailed steps
Packing queue
The queue shows picked orders that are fully staged and ready to pack in your active warehouse.
- What you claim: A parts cart (which may hold several orders) or an individual pallet (LTL). Parts orders sharing a cart are grouped into one task.
- Sections: Orders appear under Priority (Will-Call & Hot-Shot) and Ready to pack, with your Active task on top.
- Permissions: LTL orders show only if you have the forklift-operator permission.
- Reprint Labels: A Reprint Labels button on the queue lets you reprint shipping labels and packing slips for an order at any time.
- Start: Tap a task to open it.
Claim and start
Opening a task shows a Packing Summary of the items and bins. Tap Claim to take the task.
- Claim: Claiming the task assigns it to you so others don't pack the same order.
- LTL only — scan a forklift: LTL pallet tasks require you to scan a forklift before packing. Parts orders need no equipment scan.
- Multi-order carts: If a cart holds several orders, you can choose which to work, and the screen shows "Packing project X of Y" as you go.
- Pause or Cancel: You can Pause (keeps your claim) or Cancel Pack (releases the order back to the queue) at any time.
Packing an order - the steps
1 & 2 — Scan containers, verify items
Every order is packed through the same four steps.
- Scan containers: Scan each picked bin for the order (in any order); all bins must be scanned to continue.
- Verify items: Confirm the items in each bin by tapping Confirm — this is a visual check, not a barcode scan. HazMat items are flagged with a warning.
3 — Verify shipping information (build packages)
Build one or more packages for the order.
- Box or Pallet: Add a package and choose Box or Pallet. For a box, select a box type (its dimensions auto-fill).
- Items & quantity: Check which items and how many go in each package until none remain unpacked.
- Weight & dimensions: Enter the package weight (required) and length/width/height.
- HazMat & uniforms: Orders with HazMat items, and uniforms-only orders, ship ground automatically.
4 — Generate labels
Finish by creating the shipment and its documents.
- Labels print automatically: The system creates the shipment and generates FedEx labels (plus packing slips, and BOL/commercial invoice when applicable). Details are in Labels & Shipping below.
LTL (Pallet) Packing
How LTL differs
LTL orders use the same four steps, packaged onto pallets instead of boxes.
- Forklift first: Scan a forklift on the claim screen before packing.
- Build the pallet: In Verify shipping information, add Pallet packages and enter the pallet dimensions and weight.
- Freight documents: Generating labels produces a Bill of Lading (BOL) and pallet labels via FedEx Freight (returning a tracking / Pro number).
- Stage at the dock: To finish an LTL shipment you scan a dock slot in a Shipping zone, which stages the pallet for loading.
Labels and shipping
The final step creates the shipment and its documents.
- FedEx labels: Shipping labels are generated through FedEx and print automatically; you affix them to the box or pallet.
- Other documents: Packing slips are produced for every shipment; a BOL and commercial invoice are produced when applicable (for example, freight or international).
- Print before finishing: All required documents must be printed before you can finish the shipment.
- Ship: Finishing marks the shipment Shipped. Tracking can also be entered manually, and is skipped for pickup orders.
Completion and reprint
Finishing a task wraps up the order and returns you to the queue.
- Packs Complete: When all packages are shipped, a Packs Complete summary lists the packed orders.
- Empty cart: If your parts cart is now empty, you're prompted to return it to the staging area.
- Continue: Choose to pack more or go back to the queue; finishing releases your equipment.
- Reprint labels: Use the Reprint Labels button on the queue to reprint shipping labels and/or packing slips for an order later.
Priority orders (will call and hot shot)
Will-Call and Hot-Shot are priority order types that appear at the top of the packing queue.
- Packed normally: They go through the same packing steps as other orders.
- Shipping differs: A carrier label may be skipped (for example, customer or technician pickup rather than a FedEx shipment).
- Managed elsewhere: Setting an order's priority and managing pickups are handled on their own screens — see the Manage Will-Calls and Manage Hot Shot pages.
:lightbulb: User Insights
- Priority first: Will-Call and Hot-Shot orders appear at the top of the queue.
- Carrier integration: FedEx handles both small parcel and freight (LTL), so labels and tracking are generated for you.
- Finish needs documents: You can't finish a shipment until all of its required documents have been printed.
